McMINNVILLE, Ore. –
Dempsey Roggenbuck headlined four different Linfield Wildcats who scored double-digit points in Tuesday's rout of the Northwest Indian College Eagles 129-69 AT Ted Wilson Gymnasium.
Roggenbuck was joined by freshman
Braden Thorn who scored 12 points and tallied four rebounds, two assists and two blocks to go along with a high-flying dunk in the victory. Starting center
Austin Hilton followed up his great performance last night against Portland Bible College with a near triple-double, putting up 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Grant Gibb knocked down three three-pointers en route to his 11 points.
"Dempsey was a spark for us once again and showed great leadership in his play," praised Wildcats coach
Shanan Rosenberg. "
Braden Thorn made some terrific plays as well off the bench and
Austin Hilton really worked hard and asserted himself tonight."
Linfield opened the game hitting over 50 percent of their shots and took a 13-point lead into the halftime break. In the second half it was all Wildcats, with Linfield scoring on 52.6% of their shots in the second half. Defensively Linfield really stepped up, allowing the Eagles to only shoot 25.8% in the final frame.
"It was a good night to get a lot of guys reps that don't normally play as much," said Rosenberg. "It was good to see our talented freshman and sophomores play so well. That being said, it looked like we were thinking more about finals than basketball the first half, and credit to NWIC for great ball movement and shooting that half."
Senior
Tanner Autencio was efficient with nine points, four assists and three rebounds.
Aaron Baune scored eight points in eight minutes of action and senior
Aidan Phizackerley hit both of his shots to score four points. Guard
Will Burghardt showed his versatility, following up his 21-point performance last night with five assists against Northwest Indian on Monday.
The Wildcats were able to use 17 players in the contest, with the future of the men's basketball program on full display.
Reece Gibb scored eight points in his home debut, knocking down two threes.
Alex Jaczko led the team in rebounding with eight boards to add on to his five points and three assists.
Carson Bonine scored nine points and five rebounds, hitting half of his shots and
Jack Stallard scored seven points to round out the freshman class.
The Eagles Samuel Marqueda got off to a very hot start, with 18 first half points before finishing with 20. Guard Everett Howe scored 16 points and added six rebounds and three assists for an undermanned Northwest Indian team that had six players inactive.
"We'll take the rest of this week off to take finals and prepare for some excellent opponents next week," said Rosenberg. "Finals week games are often mysterious. Our guys are very committed to their academics. Let's hope we can commit to being more physical and urgent once exams are done."
