Ellensburg, Wash. – Jeryn Lucas was unstoppable on Tuesday night as the Linfield Wildcats fell to the Central Washington Wildcats by a final score of 78-68 at Nicholson Pavilion in Ellensburg, Washington.
The senior guard dropped 30 points on 9 of 17 shooting (6-10 on three-pointers), to go along with five rebounds and four assists off the bench for Central. Lucas was joined by three other Wildcats to score in double-figures in the victory.
Linfield was led by
Dempsey Roggenbuck who logged 34 minutes, scoring 14 points on 60% shooting from the field and four rebounds.
Aaron Baune contributed 13 points off the bench with five rebounds.
Grant Gibb connected on three, three-pointers and went perfect from the free throw line to collect 12 points.
It was a cold start for Linfield who only connected on 33 percent of their first-half shots they attempted, compared to a 53.5 percent shooting half for Central Washington. When all was said and done in the first frame though, Linfield was tied with a minute left in the half. Jeryn Lucas would make a three-pointer with 35 seconds left to give Central the halftime lead.
The second half opened with back-and-forth scoring from both sides, with Linfield taking their largest lead of the game at four with a little over 10 minutes left in the second half. Again the lead would continue to go back and forth, a staple of this game with 13 different lead changes.
With four minutes left to go in the game, Lucas struck again with another long ball which put Central Washington up five. Again, Linfield would answer, getting the margin back to three with just over two minutes left. But Jeryn Lucas would again have the final response, scoring the last seven points for his team, closing out a great performance.
Starting guard
Tanner Autencio dished out seven assists in the losing effort.
Austin Hilton scored eight points with four rebounds in 10 minutes, while
Max Lommen scored seven in nine minutes.
Matt Berger returned from illness and led the team in rebounds with seven, while also setting a career-high with four assists.
