SPOKANE, Wash. –
Henry Rosenfeld scored in the 21
st minute for the Linfield Wildcats, which was the game-winning goal in a close 1-0 win over the Whitworth Pirates on Sunday afternoon, which helped the Wildcats snap a nine-game winless streak.
The Pirates shot early and often totaling 20 shots, but
Cameron Perron was there to make the save on all six shots that went on goal. This was the second shutout of the season for Perron.
Linfield converted its second shot of the game when Rosenfeld got loose on a breakaway and scored for the Wildcats,
Connor Heintz picked up his third assist of the season on that goal.
The Wildcats had just two shots on goal, both were by Rosenfeld, whose other shot on goal was saved by the Pirates' Bo Broyles in the second half.
Senior midfielder
Isaias Flores picked up a red card in the 78
th minute and will miss the last game of the season on Saturday.
Outside of Rosenfeld's two shots,
Dayton Farrow,
Gerardo Perez and Flores each had a shot in this one.
Linfield snapped a nine-game winless streak with the win on Sunday afternoon. Linfield also swept the season series over Whitworth, after a 2-1 overtime victory on September 21 in McMinnville, Oregon.
The Wildcats are now 3-9-1 in Northwest Conference play which is sixth, while the Pirates are 7-6, which is fourth. Both teams have one game remaining in conference play.

The Linfield Wildcats welcome the Willamette Bearcats on Saturday at approximately 1:30 p.m., that game is part of a doubleheader with Linfield women's soccer team playing earlier in the day. A pregame ceremony will be held prior to the game on Saturday to honor the five graduating seniors.
