TACOMA, Wash. – Looking to stay undefeated in Northwest Conference play, the Pacific Lutheran Lutes downed the Linfield Wildcats 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. This was the second time in conference play this season that the Wildcats were shutout.
The Lutes are 5-0 in conference while the Wildcats fall to 2-2-1 through the first five games.
Stopping the best offense in the conference was going to be a tall task for the Wildcats defense and they were able to keep the Lutes off the board for the first 16 minutes.
Pacific Lutheran scored two goals in a span of six minutes including a penalty kick goal to grab the early lead.
Not only do the Lutes have the best offense in the conference, they also have one of the top defenses in the league with one of the lowest goals against average.
The Lutes defense has managed a clean sheet shutout in seven of the eight wins this season and they are outscoring NWC opponents, 16-1 this season.
Wildcats'
Ronan Krutzikowsky received a red card in the 59
th minute, he will Sunday's game at Puget Sound. He was the second Wildcat to receive a red card this season.
Playing with a man advantage for the final 31 minutes, Pacific Lutheran added another penalty kick in the second half and a goal in the final minute to complete the 4-0 shutout.
The Wildcats had just six shots in the game with six different players shooting them. Of the eight shots on goal faced by
Nick Van Kleek, he stopped four.
Ryan Kister,
Connor Heintz,
Gerardo Perez and
Shoma Okita each had a shot on goal on the afternoon, all saved by the Lutes.
Pacific Lutheran men's soccer head coach John Yorke picked up his 200
th career win at Pacific Lutheran.
The Lutes lead the all-time series 31-20-3, the last win for the Wildcats in this series came in October 2012.
