MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – In a game that saw 37 fouls and eight yellow cards, the George Fox Bruins edged past the Linfield Wildcats, 1-0 on a sunny and pleasant Sunday afternoon.
In the physical game, both teams had more fouls than shots in the game and five Wildcats picked up yellow card cautions in the game.
Isaias Flores picked up his fifth caution of the season and will be missing next Saturday's game at Whitman.
The Wildcats had 11 shots, but only five went on goal and all were saved by the Bruins.
Nick Van Kleek started in goal for the Wildcats and stopped two of the three shots he faced on goal.
The Bruins took the lead on a goal in the 40
th minute on a pass that cleared the Wildcats' defenders and Solek Ashkinos kicked it past Van Kleek to score the lone goal of the game.
Luke Marks had a chance to equalize the game in the second half but it was saved and the Wildcats were not able to force overtime.
The Wildcats are now 2-8-1 in Northwest Conference play, the Bruins are now also 2-8-1 in conference play. Both teams are tied for sixth in the NWC standings.
Flores,
Cesar Cruz-Espindola and
Dayton Farrow each two shots and one on goal, but none of them were able to deliver the game-tying goal.
