MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Despite playing for 110 minutes, neither the Linfield Wildcats nor the George Fox Bruins were able to get a ball back in the net on Sunday afternoon despite 31 combined shots.
The two stars of the game were the two goalkeepers, Linfield's
Madi Reimer had season high seven saves and George Fox's Brooke Jones had nine and the Bruins had a team save as well.
The Wildcats are now 4-3-1 in Northwest Conference play, while the Bruins are 2-5-1.
The Linfield defense had some miscommunication to start the game, George Fox to get some clear shots on goal, but Riemer was there for the save, she had four early on in the first half.
The Wildcats had just two shots in the first half that went wide, but they had six in the second half, including five on goal, but none of them went across the net.
Second half was a different story for the Linfield back line, who only allowed just two shots on goal, both easily saved by Reimer.
Despite 11 combined shots on goal in regulation, George Fox goalkeeper Brooke Jones and Linfield's Reimer kept this one scoreless.
Linfield had six overtime games a year ago, this was the first in 2019. For George Fox, it was the third overtime game of the season, being 0-1-1 in those.
In overtime, a pass by
Sydney Kuehn went to Burke, who got past Jones and had a clear sight at the net, but Kara Ryker got in the way and was able to get a team save to continue the game.
The shot by Burke was the lone real scoring opportunity in the first overtime for either team and the game was tied after the first 100 minutes.
The Wildcats had two scoring opportunities in the second half, but both were saved by Jones and Reimer had a save of her own to keep it a dreadlock.
Having just three shots in Saturday's loss to Pacific Lutheran, Linfield had 16 on Sunday, including 10 on goal.
Reimer made seven saves on the afternoon, her season high. The Bruins had 15 shots overall.
Both Kuehn and
Michayla Sponsel had four shots on goal but neither was able to score.
The Wildcats gave up just one goal in 200 minutes of action this weekend, but managed to score zero to go 0-1-1 in the weekend.
