Linfield KOs Pacific in rain-delayed twinbill

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Darian Stedman, Jessica Woodruff and Melanie Oord all had three hits, propelling the 22nd-ranked Linfield Wildcats to a doubleheader sweep of the Pacific Boxers Sunday night at Del Smith Stadium.

The wins raised Linfield's record to 27-7 overall, 19-3 in the NWC. Pacific went to 17-13 and 11-11 in the NWC.

GAME 1: Linfield 7, Pacific 2
Cheyenne Fletcher and Melanie Oord both hit home runs and Shelby Saylors limited Pacific to a pair of runs on the way to her 12th pitching victory of the season.

Fletcher gave Linfield at fast 1-0 lead with her eighth home run of the season in the first inning. Darian Stedman followed shortly after with a stand-up double that scored Emily Allen.

Fletcher padded Linfield's lead in her next at-bat in the second, sending a bases-loaded single to center field. A bloop single by Chelsea Horita in the next inning scored Jessica Woodruff and the 'Cats made it 5-0 in the fifth when Jacinda Swiger reached base on an error by Haley Kodama at third base, allowing Woodruff to score her second run of the game.

Kodama got Pacific on the scoreboard in the sixth, smacking her second home run of the season over the left-field fence. The Boxers made it 5-2 when Montana Vaught doubled, buying Trisha Snydar just enough time to reach home plate all the way from first base.

Oord quashed Pacific's momentum with a towering home run to right field, her fourth roundtripper of the season. Woodruff then smacked a double to center that enabled pinch runner Alana Nuttman to score from first base.

Fletcher and Woodruff each had a pair of hits to fuel Linfield's nine-hit attack. Saylors struck out two Boxers while giving up six hits and one walk.

Vaught and Katelyn Macaitis-Smith had two hits each for Pacific. Boxers starter Tiare Guerrero (0-3) took the loss. She yielded five hits, two walks and three earned runs in two innings of action.

GAME 2: Linfield 7, Pacific 1
Eliza Rossman pitched a complete-game gem, shutting down the Boxers in a four-hit, two-strikeout performance. Rossman earned her 15th pitching win of the season.

Swiger doubled to lead off the game, then scored moments later when Oord launched a shot to right field. Oord made it 2-0 in the third inning, lacing a single through the middle of the infield to score Swiger.

Stedman spanked a RBI single in the fifth to score Allen. Shortly after, Makenna Clizer delivered a standup double to score Stedman and Paige Smotherman followed with a run-scoring double to make push Linfield's advantage to 5-0.

In the Linfield sixth, Stedman lofted a pitch to the outfield, scoring pinch runner Maddy Colson. Woodruff then singled to bring home Stedman from second.

Pacific scored its only run on a bases-loaded wild pitch in the top of the seventh inning.

Swiger went 3 for 3 and scored twice. Oord and Stedman each went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI. Allen chipped in two hits as the Wildcats piled up 14 knocks in the contest.

Kodama, Snyder (2) and Vaught accounted for Pacific's four hits.
