Wildcats go 6-1 in Arizona, climb into NFCA Top 25

TUCSON, Ariz. – Emily Allen had four hits and drove in three runs, and Eliza Rossman scored two pitching victories in the circle to carry the Linfield Wildcats to wins over Central (Iowa) and Wittenberg (Ohio) Sunday at the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
 
A day later, at The Spring Games, Linfield blazed past Thomas More (Ky.) 10-6, earning the Wildcats their sixth straight win.
 
Linfield ran its season record to 12-4, winning a combined six of seven Division III contests at the Leadoff Classic and The Spring Games. The string of wins propelled the Wildcats into the NFCA national rankings for the first time this season. They share the No. 21 spot with Central.

Wildcats center fielder Cheyenne Fletcher was named to the all-tournament team of the Leadoff Classic, hitting .500 (11 for 22) with four doubles, one home run and seven RBI.
 
Leading the way statistically on the Arizona trip were Allen, who hit .538 and Fletcher, who batted .520 and stole five bases. Darian Stedman hit three home runs while batting .353. Rossman was a perfect 4-0 with three complete-game pitching victories.
 
Linfield 11, Central (Iowa) 5
Allen went 3 for 4 and drove in a pair of runs, while Melanie Oord and Stedman took turns hitting home runs as Linfield won in decisive fashion.
 
The Wildcats outhit the Dutch 15-5. Leadoff hitter Jacinda Swiger tapped three hits and drove in a run. Paige Smotherman and Makenna Clizer both logged a pair of hits. Linfield drilled seven doubles and two triples in the game.
 
Pitchers Shelby Saylors, Tanna Benson and Rossman combined to hold Central at bay. Rossman (6-0) closed the game with 2.1 hitless innings to earn the win.
 
Linfield 5, Wittenberg 4
Rossman struck out just one batter and allowed five hits but pitched seven strong innings to secure her seventh pitching victory without a loss.
 
The Wildcats, behind Fletcher's two hits, produced eight hits, including a double by Maddy Colson in her first at-bat of the season.
 
Linfield 10, Thomas More 6
The Wildcats scored five runs in the first inning then fought off a late rally to cinch their sixth straight win.
 
Allen doubled twice, went 3 for 4 and drove in four runs. Fletcher went 2 for 3 with a triple and scored three runs while Stedman was 2 for 4 with a home run. Oord and Jessica Woodruff also tapped a pair of hits.
 
Saylors and Rossman shared duty in the circle with Saylors (5-3) earning the win in a starting role. The pair allowed 13 hits and three walks.
 
Both clubs produced 13 hits but Linfield had nine extra-base hits while Thomas More notched five.
 
Next
Linfield heads to Newberg for an important Northwest Conference series with the George Fox Bruins (7-1, 2-0 NWC). The Wildcats and Bruins square off in doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday with action starting at noon both days.
