THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. –
Cheyenne Fletcher swatted four hits, including a home run, and freshman
Eliza Rossman pitched a complete-game shutout as Linfield divided a nonconference doubleheader with Cal Lutheran Monday afternoon at Hutton Field.
Linfield completed its five-game early season swing through Southern California with record of 2-3.
GAME 1: Cal Lutheran 9, Linfield 4
The Regals touched up Wildcats starter
Shelby Saylors for three runs over the first two innings.
Cheyenne Fletcher led off the third inning, reached base on an error, then scored the Wildcats' first run on a fielder's choice.
Jessica Woodruff cut the difference to 3-2 moments later with an RBI single to score
Maddy Colson from third base.
Cal Lutheran made it a 7-2 ballgame in the bottom of the inning, plating four runs. Linfield notched single runs in the fifth and sixth inning as
Chelsea Horita tapped a run-scoring single and Fletcher homered to make the score 7-4. The Regals netted two more runs in the sixth, putting the game out of reach.
Fletcher went 2 for 2 and scored a pair of runs.
Melanie Oord also came away with a pair of hits.
Saylors (1-2) pitched the entire game, striking out two batters and walking one.
GAME 2: Linfield 9, Cal Lutheran 0, 5 innings
Fletcher, Horita and
Emily Allen all had two hits, including doubles, and the Wildcats racked up 11 hits in a game shortened to five innings by the eight-run rule. Allen,
Jessica Woodruff, Horita and
Amanda Reser took turns driving home runs.
Freshman
Eliza Rossman went the distance in the pitching circle, earning her first collegiate win. She scattered three hits, walked two batters and notched two strikeouts.

Darian Stedman and Fletcher all logged stolen bases in the game.

After returning to Oregon, Linfield heads to Tacoma, Wash., to face the Puget Sound Loggers in a four-game Northwest Conference series. Doubleheader action starts at noon Saturday and Sunday on the Puget Sound campus.
