REDLANDS, Calif. –
Melanie Oord hit two home runs and
Emily Allen had four hits Sunday afternoon as Linfield split a doubleheader with the Redlands Bulldogs at the Field of Dreams.
The Wildcats generated a combined 17 runs in the two contests. In the pitching circle,
Shelby Saylors spun a five-inning shutout in the nightcap.
GAME 1: Redlands 10, Linfield 9
Linfield built a 7-2 lead after 3 ½ innings but Redlands erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fourth to go on top 8-7 before adding two more runs in the sixth. Linfield scored twice in the seventh to pull within one run, but with two runners aboard,
Emily Allen struck out swinging to end the game.
Allen led the way offensively with three hits and also reached base with a walk.
Cheyenne Fletcher and Oord both registered two hits. All three Wildcats picked up doubles in the game and Oord lofted her first home run of the season for good measure.
Tanna Benson started the game in the circle. She allowed six hits and a pair of walks before turning the game over to freshman
Maddy Podnar to start the fourth inning.
GAME 2: Linfield 8, Redlands 0, 5 innings
Saylors (1-1) struck out five Bulldogs and allowed three hits and no walks to collect the win.
The Wildcats gave Saylors plenty of offensive support, plating six runs in the top of the first inning to assume quick command.
Oord hit her second homer of afternoon in the fourth inning and
Jessica Woodruff went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs to pace the Wildcats.
FRIDAY GAME: Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 7, Linfield 0
CMS jumped on Linfield from the get-go, pushing across four runs in the first inning. Saylors, the Wildcats' starter, gave up 15 hits and one walk before being replaced in the sixth inning by newcomer
Eliza Rossman.
Oord had a pair of hits and also reached base when she was hit by a pitch.
Chelsea Horita went 2-for-3.
Jacinda Swiger and Benson also tapped singles in the contest.
CMS all-star pitcher Anna Gurr pocketed eight strikeouts without yielding a walk.
