‘Cats Tie Top of the League Willamette 1-1

McMINNVILLE, ORE..— The Linfield Wildcats drew the Willamette Bearcats in a fantastic and thrilling match by a final score of 1-1. Both teams started off the first half trying to figure out each other out with a lot of play in the midfield and were dead locked at zero going into the half.

The Bearcats jumped on the board first in the 68th minute when junior, Shanna Keil made a strong run forward and put a shot off the crossbar. The rebound found the foot of sophomore, Lacey Jones who slotted one home for her fourth goal of the season. Jones ties Junior Amidee Colleknon for third in the conference in goals.

Linfield would respond shortly after when junior, Lexi Kerr played a free kick into the box in the 69th minute. The bouncing ball hit off the hand of a Willamette defender and led to a penalty kick for the Wildcats. Junior, Natalie Amara stepped up to the spot and found the bottom left hand corner of the net for her first goal of the season.

Both teams created plenty of chances to get a second goal, but neither side was able to find the back of the net the rest of the match. Sophomore, Kristen Burke had a couple of slick plays to create opportunities for Linfield but could not find anyone to complete the chances. Amara had a ringing chance off the crossbar from a free kick as well.

Linfield's goal keeper Madi Reimer and Willamette's Kristin Barclay both had very strong games in net for their respective sides. Remier made three saves for Linfield, while Barclay made five saves for Willamette. Both keepers remain top five in the conference in goals against, Barclay in first and Reimer tied for third.

Willamette stays atop the Northwest Conference with 21 points and Linfield will stay in 5th with 13 points.
