Logger sub delivers winning goal

Story Links

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Puget Sound's Gabbie Berg came off the bench to tally the lone goal under the lights Friday night and the Loggers held on to defeate Linfield 1-0 in Northwest Conference action at Maxwell Field.

1st Half
Berg entered the match after Tayla Macpherson departed with an early injury. The Loggers' reserve then recorded her second goal of the season, redirecting a Kendra Elderkin cross to the bottom corner of the Wildcats' net in the 19th minute.

Linfield's Yasmeen Ramos nearly answered seven minutes later, dribbling past four Loggers before seeing her 18-yard shot blocked. Natalie Amara also nearly brought the 'Cats even when her 30-yard effort was corralled by Loggers' goalkeeper Jamie Lange with five minutes left before halftime.

2nd Half
Puget Sound's Jacquelyn Anderson came close to doubling her side's advantage when a shot attempt in the 64th minute, bounced off Linfield's left post and dribbled out of play.

On her first shot of the match, Amidee Colleknon came tantalizingly close to scoring her first goal this fall when she flicked a Michayla Sponsel free kick toward goal in the 65th minute. Lange misjudged the cross and was taken out of the play, but the Loggers defense blocked Colleknon's effort five yards in front of a wide-open net.

In her second-career start, Linfield netminder Madi Reimer stymied Puget Sound's Elizabeth McGraw on a breakaway opportunity, preserving the one-goal deficit with 14 minutes left in the game.

Linfield Ledger
With five shots, Emma Smith led a 'Cats team that outshot the Loggers 14-9. Sydney Kuehn and Amara both totaled three shots each. Reimer ended the night with four saves against five shots on goal.

Leading Logger
Anderson topped Puget Sound with three shots. Lange recorded her fifth shutout of the season, notching six saves.

What It Means
Linfield falls to sixth place in the NWC standings at 4-4-1 (6-6-1 overall). The Loggers remain in third at 5-2-2.
