Alex Ponce

Alex Ponce

Alex Ponce is his eighth season as an assistant coach of the Linfield men’s soccer team.
 
Ponce also currently coaches at FC Portland Academy, overseeing the Under-16 and Under-18/19 boys divisions. He has been with the academy since 2013.
 
Prior to coming to Linfield, Ponce was the head coach of the girls varsity program for four years at Rex Putnam High School in Milwaukie, Oregon. He was an assistant coach on the staff for three years before being elevated to head coach.
 
In 2014, Ponce guided the Lady Kingsmen to their only league title and reached the semifinals of the Oregon Class 5A State Tournament. He was named the 2014 Oregon 5A State Coach of the Year after the stellar season.
 
Ponce played high school soccer at Hood River Valley and was named the Oregon State Soccer Player of the Year in 2003.
 
He started his college career at Clark College where he was named 2004 Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
 
He transferred to Concordia University-Portland, where he was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Year in 2007 and was a first team all-CCC midfielder. He also earned NAIA honorable mention All-America recognition.
 
After college, Ponce went on to play in the Professional Arena Soccer League for the Stockton Cougars in 2011 and played for Portland City FC in Major League Futsal during the 2015 season.
 
Ponce resides in Portland.
