Women's golf braves harsh conditions, finishes eighth at PLU Invitational

DUPONT, Wash. – The Linfield women's golf team finished eighth at the PLU Invitational, completing the 36-hole tournament Monday at The Home Course.

The Wildcats opened with a 54-over team score before finishing the tournament with a 76-over second round. The field had to play through strong wind and rainy conditions in Monday's final round at The Home Course, increasing the majority of scores in round two. Redlands claimed the team title at 47-over.

Ashlyn Yorimoto led the Wildcats for a second-straight tournament, tying for 12th individually at 17-over. Yorimoto opened with a 6-over 78, highlighted by a birdie on the par-3 fourth hole. She followed with an 11-over 83 in Round 2, making birdie on the par-4 17th and playing the back nine in 3-over 39.

Breleigh Garcia tied for 32nd at 32-over after rounds of 83 and 93. Garcia's opening round included a birdie on the par-3 sixth. She carded a 93 in the second round, with a par on the par-3 15th. Sophomore Addison Nations tied for 38th, posting rounds of 88 and 92. Nations made birdie on the par-3 fourth during her opening round. She followed with a 92 in Round 2, recording pars on holes 3, 4, 9, 14 and 16.

Sophia Hamilton placed 48th, posting rounds of 93 and 96. Hamilton recorded four pars in her opening round before adding three pars in Monday's final round. Lucille Ugaldea finished 49th after rounds of 95 and 96. Her first round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-5 seventh, while she recorded pars on holes 6 and 14 during her second-round 96.

Kara Heater also represented Linfield as an individual, tying for 52nd at 52-over. Heater opened with a 99 before improving by two strokes with a 97 in the final round. Her second round included pars on the par-3 fourth and sixth holes as she completed the tournament at 196.

Redlands' Savanah Christenson claimed medalist honors with rounds of 74, 72.

The Wildcats look ahead to next weekend's Northwest Conference Fall Classic at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course in North Plains, Oregon. The only NWC-sanctioned event of the Fall season.
