UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Linfield men's golf finished tied for third at the Whitworth Golf Invitational among a strong field, closing the two-day tournament at Chambers Bay with two individuals earning top-ten finishes.

The Wildcats opened the tournament with a 6-over 294 before carding an 11-over 299 in the final round. Linfield shared third place with conference rival Whitworth, finishing two strokes behind second-place Aurora. Sewanee won the tournament at 4-under. The tournament was held at Chambers Pay Golf Course, the host site of the 2015 U.S. Open Championship.

Aurora's James Doyle and Drew Prieto tied for medalist honors at 4-under following rounds of 69 and 71 for the tournament.

Douglas Bailey led the Wildcats, placing fourth individually at 2-under for the tournament. Bailey opened with a 6-under 66, recording an eagle on the par-3 ninth and another eagle on the par-5 18th. He also made birdies on holes 8, 10, 13, 14 and 16. Bailey followed with a 4-over 76 in the final round, making three birdies in the round.

Owen Irving tied for eighth at 4-over after rounds of 73 and 75. Irving's opening round included birdies on 12, 15 and 17, while he added birdies on 5, 15 and 16 during his second round.

Brody Landaker tied for 20th at 9-over, rebounding from an opening-round 79 with a 2-over 74 on Sunday. Landaker sank three birdies in his first round before making birdies on holes 5, 8, 13 and 18 in the final round. His second-round finish was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 18th as he played the back nine in 2-under 34.

Jake Hyland placed 19th at 8-over following rounds of 76 and 76. Hyland improved on his four birdies in round one by making a team-high seven on Sunday.

Ryder Ng rounded out the Linfield lineup in 26th at 13-over. Ng opened with an 83 before improving by nine strokes with a 2-over 74 in the final round. His second round featured birdies on holes 3, 9 and 12, an eagle on the par-4 16th and a birdie on the par-3 17th.

The Wildcats now prepare for the lone Northwest Conference tournament of the Fall season, competing in the Fall Classic next Monday and Tuesday at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course in North Plains, Oregon.
