NEWBERG, Ore. – Nora Myre and Naia Alefaio-Foifua lifted Linfield volleyball (5-5, 2-1 NWC) to their Northwest Conference victory of the season Thursday night, defeating the George Fox Bruins (2-9, 0-4 NWC) in four sets at the Wheeler Sports Center. The Wildcats took the match 25-18, 25-21, 23-25, 25-15.
The Wildcats took control early on, claiming the first two sets. After taking the opener by seven points, the 'Cats battled through a tightly contested second frame that featured 11 ties and seven lead changes before prevailing 25-21. George Fox responded by edging Linfield 25-23 in the third, sending the match to a fourth set.
The Wildcats left little doubt in the final frame, closing out the match with a decisive 25-15 victory. Linfield finished the night with 49 kills on 131 attempts, hitting .191 while holding George Fox to a .030 hitting percentage. The 'Cats also totaled eight blocks and six service aces.
Nora Myre led the offense with a match-high 17 kills, adding 10 digs, two service aces and a solo block for a double-double. Tatum Montiel supplied an efficient performance with 10 kills and only three errors on 21 attempts, hitting .333, while Kaitlyn Hough contributed eight kills. Ascha Nielsen hit .500 with five kills on eight swings and added three block assists.
Naia Alefaio-Foifua anchored the defense with a match-high 20 digs, while Bella Rodriguez added eight. Kaarina Geymann handed out a team-high 24 assists, and Margaritah Banuelos added 20 assists, seven digs and two aces. Madison Millard led Linfield's work at the net with two solo blocks and two block assists while also recording a service ace.
Tomorrow evening provides Linfield with a chance to string together a pair of wins, hosting the Lewis & Clark River Otters at 6 p.m. inside Ted Wilson Gymnasium Â
