Bailey earns individual bid to NCAA DIII Men's Golf National Championship

| By:
Junior Douglas Bailey
Douglas Bailey's historic season continues into May, as the junior Wildcat was selected as one of ten individuals to earn a bid into the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship next weekend in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

The Durham, Oregon, native earned medalist honors three times in six events this Spring, boosting his individual ranking on Clippd's Scoreboard from No. 325 entering the Spring to No. 33 following his win at the NWC Championship. He successfully defended his title at the 2025 Northwest Conference Championship, once again winning medalist honors after sinking a birdie in a playoff at the 2026 tournament.

This Spring, Bailey never finished worse than sixth individually, leading a Wildcat squad that entered the NWC Championship as the top-seed. He earned a record of 424-64-14 in his junior season, boasting an adjusted scoring average of 71.7, ranking No. 8 in the west region. He's one of three individuals on the west coast to earn the individual bid, joining Pomona-Pitzer's John Kim and Redland's Jay Alvarado Wing.

Bailey is the first Wildcat to make the NCAA DIII National Championships since the Wildcats made the tournament as a team in 2011-2012. The Willamette Bearcats also represent the Northwest Conference, earning the conference's automatic-qualifying-team bid after claiming the NWC title in 2026.

The 2026 National Championship is set to begin on May 12, running through May 15 at Mission Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The 72-hole tournament will feature a cut following the first 36-holes, where the field will be cut to the top-18 teams and top-six individuals not on one of those teams.
