Erik Anderson Icebreaker kicks off outdoor season

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Clearing skies greeted over 1,000 entrants at the unofficial opening of the 2026 outdoor track and field season at Linfield University's Maxwell Field on Saturday.
 
The Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker meet, which began in the 1970s, welcomed 20 college and university teams, plus an array of independent clubs and unattached athletes to compete in a full complement of events.
 
WOMEN
Highlighting the Linfield performance list for the women was Natasha Freimuth who won the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:09.30, edging teammate Lauren Klopcic, who finished in 1:11.49. Freimuth also keyed a winning effort in the 4x100 relay, joining Baylie Thompson, Isabella Grutsch and Paige Kasso to easily place first with a top early season time of 50.62.
 
In the jumps, Ashley Hayes placed second in high jump with a leap of 4-4. In the pole vault, Sage Cramp vaulted 10-9 to place fifth and Analissa Paresa was sixth with an early season mark of 10-3¼ .
 
Grutsch captured third place in the 100 hurdles with a new personal best of 15.18 seconds. Her personal best of 17-2 in the long jump earned her third place and was also a new personal best. And the freshman turned in a third-place effort in the triple jump with a mark of 35-8.
 
In the throws, Savannah Filios earned third place in the discus, tossing, 124-11. Sophie Hulke tossed the hammer 135-1 to claim sixth place and Haley Bland was sixth in the javelin with a mark of 125-7.
 
MEN
Hudson Holzhauer scored third place in the hammer with a mark of 166-8. Kiyan Vrell secured fourth in the javelin.
 
Liam Christensen clocked a personal best of 22.85 in the 200 to take home fifth place while Charles Dayton was sixth in the same event in 11.24.
 
Durham Huson was fifth in the 110 hurdles in 16.16 and Luke Niemi was sixth in the 400 dash in 52.15.
 
James Bethune took sixth place in the triple jump with a mark of 43-3.
 
COMING UP
Linfield is slated to compete Saturday in Newberg at the Rich Allen Classic on the campus of George Fox University.
