Men's golf rolls to third consecutive team title at GFU Invite

| By:
[L-R] Head Coach Mitch Wilson, Owen Irving, Ryder Ng, Kellen Hudson, Brody Landaker, Douglas Bailey
MOLALLA, Ore. --- Linfield men's golf captured their third team title in as many tournaments this Spring, making four birdies down the stretch to outlast Pacific Lutheran and Whitworth for the title. Seven of eight Wildcats finished inside the top-12 individually, led by senior Douglas Bailey, finishing fourth at +4 over two rounds.

Bailey rebounded from an opening-round 75 where he sank four birdies, to a clean card on Tuesday to fire an even-par 71, The senior moved up eight spots to finish fourth, largely thanks to 12 pars, three birdies and three bogeys in the final round.

Freshman Owen Irving made bogey on his final two holes of the first round, still firing a one-over 72 to enter the final round in third. Five bogeys on the back dropped Irving back into a tie for seventh after a final round 76.

Three Wildcats all tied for 12th on the individual leaderboard, finishing at seven over par. Senior Kellen Hudson made the biggest jump between the two rounds, rebounding from a first round 77 to a 72 on Tuesday to just 14 spots. Freshman Brody Landaker and Ryder Ng matched each other both days with rounds of 76, 73. Ng was unable to record a birdie on Monday but bounced back with five in the final round, most importantly making birdie on the final hole to help the team claim the team title.

Linfield sent three Wildcats to compete as solely individuals in the tournament, senior Zach Netter, sophomore Emmett Cox and freshman Timothy Morach.

Cox was impressive following a first-round 77, tying Bailey with a 72 in the final round, the best score by a Wildcat on Tuesday. The sophomore began the final round with a two-under 34 on the back nine, but made bogey on two of his final three in route to an even 71 and a top-ten finish (T-7th).

Morach fired rounds of 74, 75, finishing in a tie for 12th alongside three fellow Wildcats in the individual leaderboard. Netter finished 37th as an individual with rounds of 77, 79.

Pacific Lutheran's Koen Solis and Whitworth's Matthew Durkin shared Co-Medalist honors finishing at one-under par. The Wildcats rounds of 299 and 289 helped them jump two spots on the leaderboard to go three-for-three in team champion honors to begin the Spring campaign.

Men's golf looks aims to continue to string together wins at this weekend's Northwest Conference Spring Classic up in Tacoma, Washington, at Oakbrook Golf Club. The 'Cats shoot to move up in the conference standings at the second of three NWC-led events, finishing third at the Fall Classic back in October.
