Five first-place finishes highlight Linfield results at Pacific Open

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – First-place finishes by Liam Christensen, Kiyan Vrell, Natasha Freimuth, Isabella Grutsch and Islee Siliga highlighted a strong all-around showing by the Linfield Wildcats at the Pacific Open Saturday at Pacific University's Hansen Stadium.
 
MEN
Christensen continued his strong start to the outdoor season, taking first place in the 100-meter dash (11.07 seconds) and third place in the 200 dash (22.23).
 
Luke Niemi recorded a season-best time in the 400 dash, placing fourth in 51.81. Finley Wodke timed a personal-best 1:57.12 in the 800 run to lock up fourth place. CJ Brindeiro ran to a fifth-place result in the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:42.86.
 
Among the throwers, Vrell secured first place in the javelin with a mark of 192 feet, 0 inches and Payton Sorensen was fifth at 126-4. Hudson Holzhauer flung the hammer 163-9 to earn second place. Parker Stevens was fifth at 139-10.
 
Shyson Cachuela tossed the discus 138-7 to capture fifth place in a deep field of 25 competitors. Parker Stevens was seventh with a mark of 129-7. Cachuela also earned third place in the shot put, going 43-3¾.   
 
In the jumps, Dakota Brannan sailed over the bar at a season-best height of 13-5 to place fourth while Nolan Menting was sixth at 11-11¼. James Bethune went 40-3¼ in the triple jump to place fourth while Isaiah Rupp turned in a personal-best effort of 36-0¼ in the same event to finish fifth.
 
WOMEN
Freimuth claimed top honors in the 400 dash with a personal-best time of 1:02.76. Mia McCormack was close behind in 1:05.86, placing third. Freimuth returned later to place fifth in the 400 hurdles in a season-best time of 1:09.03. Grutsch was fifth in the 100 hurdles with a personal-best mark of 15.00
 
Competing in the middle distances, Saniyah Ayala and Liberty McElfatrick each established season-best times in the 800. Ayala finished third in 2:38.92 while McElfatrick was fifth in 2:57.86.
 
Among the jumpers, Grutsch prevailed in the triple jump with a mark of 35-3¼ while Lauren Klopcic was runner-up in the event with a personal-best mark of 32-10¼. Sage Cramp soared a season-best 11-7 in the pole vault to lock up second place. Analissa Paresa was fourth at 10-7. Mada Lee took third place in the long jump (16-2½).
 
For the throwers, Siliga claimed first place in the shot put, hurtling the steel ball 39-8½. Savannah Filios was runner-up in the hammer with a heave of 126-5. Sophie Hulke was third at 122-4, Claire Moss came in fourth at 119-11, and Klaira Flatt placed fifth at 119-4. Margaritah Banuelos went 102-0 in the discus to place sixth, just inches in front of Hulke, who was seventh at 101-8. Eboni Zehner threw 95-7 in the javelin, good for third place.
 
NEXT
Linfield hosts the annual Jenn Boyman Memorial meet Saturday at Maxwell Field with the 10,000 run getting things started at 9:30 a.m. A special alumni mile race will be staged at 11 a.m. followed by a kids half-lap race at 11:10. Linfield track and field alumni will be recognized on the field at 11:15.
