McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield volleyball (6-6, 3-2 NWC) saw its three-match NWC winning streak come to an end Friday night, falling to Pacific Lutheran (12-2, 5-0 NWC) 25-22, 25-19, 25-19. Senior outside hitter,
Nora Myre, eclipsed 700 career kills in the contest, moving her to No. 14 in program history.
Linfield stayed within striking distance throughout the opening set despite trailing 16-10. The Wildcats responded with a 6-1 run highlighted by three consecutive blocks to pull within 17-16. Linfield later erased a 20-17 deficit to tie the set at 20-20 and again at 21-21 and 22-22, but Pacific Lutheran claimed the final three points to take the opener 25-22.
Pacific Lutheran jumped ahead 7-2 in the second set before Linfield began working its way back. The Wildcats trailed 20-14 before scoring five straight points, including a block from
Tatum Montiel and
Madison Millard, to cut the margin to 20-19. Pacific Lutheran answered by taking the final five points for a 25-19 victory.
Linfield produced its best offensive set in the third, recording 15 kills and hitting .184. After falling behind 15-6, the Wildcats continued to battle and used a late stretch that included kills from
Nora Myre and Millard along with a
Kaylea Rietdyk service ace to pull within 21-18. Pacific Lutheran held off the comeback and closed the match with a 25-19 win.
Myre led Linfield with nine kills on 26 attempts, while Montiel finished with eight kills and four block assists. Millard contributed five kills while leading the Wildcats at the net with a solo block and five block assists.
Kaitlyn Hough and
Katelyn Mawdsley added five kills apiece.
Naia Alefaio-Foifua paced the defense with 13 digs and added one of Linfield's two service aces, while
Kaarina Geymann recorded 15 assists and 10 digs. Rietdyk supplied the Wildcats' other ace. Linfield finished the match with 33 kills, 36 digs and eight total blocks.
Linfield returns tomorrow evening inside Ted Wilson Gymnasium as the night cap to Homecoming, hosting the Puget Sound Loggers at 6 p.m.
