MCMINNVILLE, Ore. --- Linfield men's soccer (0-4-0) closed out the home stand on Monday evening under the lights, coming up short against the Warner Pacific Knights (3-1-0) of the Cascade Collegiate Conference, 2-0.
The Wildcats found themselves trailing early in the game as the Knights fired a deep shot, finding the upper right corner and giving the visitors an early 1-0 lead.
Linfield tried to respond quickly, with
Oliver Blanchard firing the team's first shot on goal in the 23
rd minute, but it was stopped by the Knights keeper.
The Knights extended their lead in the 35th minute when they slotted home a goal to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
Maintaining the pressure on offense throughout, the Knights held a 14-2 overall shot advantage over the 'Cats. Much of the second half, the ball was possessed by Warner Pacific, as the Knights would go on to take a 2-0 victory.
Linfield's two shots came from
Oliver Blanchard and
Sam Haynes, while goalkeeper
Jacob Toves made a pair of saves on 14 shots faced.
Don Moss and
Derek Rowe picked up yellow cards along the way.
The 'Cats begin the Northwest Conference season next Friday in Forest Grove, Oregon, where they take on the Pacific Boxers at 7:45 p.m.
