MONMOUTH, Ore. --- Linfield men's and women's cross country returned to action after a pair of weeks off, with the women's five taking tenth-place, while three 'Cats competed in the men's 6K.
In the women's 5K race, freshman
Mya Budzik paced the team for a second-consecutive meet, running a time of 22:33.8 to take 57
th. Budzik's fasted split came at the 3K marker, later dropping a bit to close out a strong race.
Freshman
Jasmine Solso ran a similar race, just trailing Budzik for the large majority of the race. She made up some time in her final split, taking 62
nd, just 13-seconds behind Budzik.
Ximena Sanchez-Lopez and
Liberty McElfatrick finished third and fourth amongst the team. Sanchez-Lopez came out 30-seconds ahead of McElfatrick through the first 2.2-kilometers, but it McElfatrick was able to finish the remainder of the race four-seconds faster just among the last 2.8-kilometers. Junior transfer
Mia McCormack rounded out the lineup for the 'Cats, running a 29:33.0 in her second race of the season.
Three 'Cats represented Linfield in the men's six-kilometer race on Friday, with freshman
Marco Stroman leading the way once again. Stroman came out of the gates quick, and picked up the pace once again to close out the race with a 37
th-place finish. Freshman
CJ Brindeiro was pacing Stroman for the first kilometer, eventually giving a couple places up in the middle portion for the race. Brindeiro earned a 50
th-place finish with a time of 21:05.5
Freshman
Finley Wodke was the final competitor for the men's squad, hanging tough through the first half of the race. Wodke lost a bit of steam coming in, but still finished with a respectable 23:22.5 time.
Cross Country hits the course again next weekend, heading north to Tacoma, Washington, to compete in the Pacific Lutheran Invitational at PLU Meadows on Saturday at 11 a.m.
