Five members of the Linfield softball team were honored Tuesday with College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selections, awarding their performance in the classroom and on the field.
Veteran standouts
Kaili Saathoff and
Brynn Nelson earned nominations for the third time in their careers, while
Meara Sain,
Tiani Wayton and
Tyler McNeley were each first-time recipients.
A senior first baseman majoring in mathematics and physics, Saathoff has been a key presence in the Linfield lineup. She posted a .394 batting average across 49 games, collecting 63 hits, 44 RBI, and a team-high 60 runs scored. She belted six home runs and stole 15 bases. This marks her third CSC Academic All-District selection, underlining her consistent success both athletically and academically.
Nelson, a senior second baseman from Bonney Lake, Washington, also earned Academic All-District for the third consecutive year. A double major in mathematics and economics, Nelson was one of Linfield's most productive hitters, batting .424 with 70 hits and 54 RBI. She slugged nine home runs, drew 14 walks and struck out just two times over 165 at-bats. She also provided steady defense with a .977 fielding percentage.
Sain burst onto the scene as a sophomore. An exercise science major from Eugene, Oregon, Sain ranked among the team leaders in batting average (.439), hits (65), and runs scored (49). She collected 15 doubles and five home runs while striking out just six times. She also tallied nine stolen bases and held a flawless 1.000 fielding percentage, demonstrating all-around value for the Wildcats.
Wayton, a senior outfielder from Kailua, Hawaii, earned her first academic nod after batting .327 with 35 hits and 23 RBI. A major in exercise science, Wayton added two home runs and 10 stolen bases, starting 44 games in the outfield without committing a single error. Her speed and glove work were integral to Linfield's defensive stability.
McNeley, one of the top pitchers in the Northwest Conference, rounds out the group of honorees. The sophomore right-hander from Lakeview, Oregon, posted a dominant 2.22 ERA over 192 innings pitched. She struck out 182 batters while walking only 27 and threw 21 complete games. McNeley also tossed a no-hitter and recorded double-digit strikeouts in three different games. An exercise science major, McNeley also earned NFCA All-Region X honors for her performance in the circle.
The five Academic All-District honorees are now eligible for CSC Academic All-America consideration, which will be announced in mid June.
