Continuing a season of milestone accomplishments, Linfield junior
Kira Hawaaboo reset her own school record in the women's long jump on Saturday, leaping 19 feet, 9½ inches (6.03 meters) at the Oregon Twilight meet at historic Hayward Field.
Wildcats coach
Travis Olson called Hawaaboo's record-setting jump "pretty special," saying "her jumps up until her best jump were a little flat but on her fifth jump, the crowd got involved and that extra adrenaline was all she needed."
Hawaaboo's effort exceeded by more than three inches her standing record of 19-6¾, a mark set at the 2024 Northwest Conference Championships. It also moved her up to No. 7 among Division III long jumpers.
"It was a great competition for Kira," said Olson. "She has been waiting to break the 6-meter barrier for some time now and for her to do it at historic Hayward Field was pretty special."
Also over the weekend, Wildcats teammate
Conner Dooley continued his ascension up the Linfield Top-10 list in the 800-meter run. At the Portland Twilight meet, Dooley clocked 1:52.98 to climb to No. 6 on the all-time list.
"For Conner to run a 1:52.98 after being a 2:05 800 runner in high school is quite amazing," said Olson. "It is a testament to the work that Conner put in under the guidance of his coach
Mike Blackmore."
