Wildcats compete at NWC Spring Classic

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Linfield's men's and women's golf teams wrapped up play at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic, hosted by Whitman at Wine Valley Golf Club on Sunday and Monday. Facing stiff competition from across the conference, the Wildcats battled against a strong field in the two-day tournament.

MEN
The men's team finished eighth overall in a competitive nine-team field. Willamette claimed the team title, followed closely by George Fox and Whitman, who tied for second place.

Douglas Bailey led the Wildcats with a two-day total of 143 (74-69), earning a share of fifth place on the individual leaderboard. Bailey's final-round 69 was tied for the best score posted on Monday, helping him climb the standings.

Zack LaPlaca followed for Linfield with a two-day score of 149 (70-79), tying for 24th. Kellen Hudson (151), Ryder Ng (155), and Zach Netter (158) rounded out the team scoring. Despite consistent play throughout the roster, the team was unable to gain ground on the leaders after a challenging opening round.

WOMEN
The Linfield women's team finished eighth in the nine-team field as George Fox cruised to a dominant team victory. Whitman placed second, while Pacific jumped into third.

Tori Schuller posted Linfield's low score of the tournament, carding two rounds of 84 for a two-day total of 168, good for a tie for 25th place. Teammate Josie Daywitt added a 176 (90-86) to finish tied for 31st, while Sasha Carey (182) and Sara Pate (184) contributed to the team effort.

George Fox claimed the top four spots on the individual leaderboard, led by Alison Takamiya, who shot a tournament-best 145 (74-71).

NWC STANDINGS
The Spring Classic is the second of three counting events that determine the NWC championship. With just one tournament left, the men's team currently sits in a tie for fourth place with PLU at a score of 1,172, while the women's side finds themselves in eighth place with a score of 1,448.

NEXT
Linfield now sets its sights on the Northwest Conference Championship, the final leg of the season and the last opportunity to climb the league standings that will take place later this month with Linfield as the host school.
