Four Wildcats named to CSC Academic All-District team

Linfield men's basketball players Chase Bennett, Jake Downing, Garrett Callsen and Cade Collins earned College Sports Communicators NCAA Division III Academic All-District honors in an announcement released Tuesday. This is Bennett and Downing's second selection while Callsen and Collins make their first appearance.

Bennett appeared in 23 games this season, starting 11 of them and recorded 17.9 minutes per contest. The Campolindo High School product averaged 4.3 points to go along with 2.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He is majoring in finance while at Linfield and hails from Moraga, California.

Downing, a senior, finished the season just three points shy of his single season high. He appeared in all 25 games for the Wildcats and tallied 13.6 minutes per game. A native of Seattle, Downing is majoring in journalism and media studies.

Callsen put together an impressive sophomore season for Linfield this year, putting up 7.9 points while appearing in all 25 games. He also pulled down 3.8 boards and nailed 58.7% of his field goal attempts.

Collins is Linfield's lone all-NWC selection, being selected as an honorable mention. The sophomore recorded 12.7 points per game this season and ranked among the nation's leaders in free throw percentage at 90.1%.

To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must participate in at least 90 percent of their team's games and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

All four players move onto the Academic All-America ballot which will be selected and announced on April 15.
