Casey Bunn-Wilson looks to continue the early-season momentum in what is Linfield's toughest test of the season. Whitworth (6-9, 3-3 NWC) has lost two straight against George Fox and Pacific but has a chance to draw some attention with a game against Whitman (14-1, 6-0 NWC) early in the week. The Blues hold a solid lead in the NWC standings having yet to lose a conference game.
LINFIELD AT A GLANCE
Currently sitting at second place in the NWC standings, The Wildcats have made a name for themselves with efficient offense and suffocating defense. Linfield shoots the ball at a 44% clip and holds opponents to 34.9%, both rank second in the conference.
Gillyan Landis and
Eve Burke lead Linfield's scoring efforts, putting up 12.3 and 11.5 points respectively.
Miki Vermeulen remains Linfield's glue player that can do it all. With 10.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks, Vermeulen has been essential in Linfield's historic season.
Allie Mead averages 4.2 assists and directs an offense that averages 66.4 points.
WHITWORTH AT A GLANCE
The Pirates sport a solid offense that averages 63.6 points, but the defense relinquishes 65.7 for a -2.1 margin. Whitworth's strength lies in its rebounding where the Pirates average 40.1 per game, a conference best. Ashlyn Peterson leads the Whitworth scoring attack with 14.2 points while Julianna Jeross adds 10.4 in their impressive freshman campaigns. Mya Bair averages 8.1 rebounds while also tallying 32 steals and 10 blocks on the season.
WHITMAN AT A GLANCE
The Blues are ranked sixth nationally and have been dominant through the first half of conference play. They top nearly every statistical category in the conference including scoring (69.7), defense (49.1) field goal percentage (45.7%) and turnover margin (5). Korin Baker and Carly Martin lead the conference in scoring with 18.7 and 16.7 points each with Baker also leading the conference in field goal percentage (65%). Natalie Lundberg leads the NWC with a 2.2 assist/turnover ratio and the Blues as a team average the least number of turnovers per game (13.1).
SERIES HISTORY
Linfield trails Whitworth 12-59 in the all-time series and have fallen in the previous four meetings. The last win in Spokane came in 2019 and Linfield holds a 4-30 record on the road.
Against the Blues, Linfield holds a 20-53 record with the latest victory coming last season in Ted Wilson Gymnasium. The Wildcats trail 7-29 in Walla Walla and haven't won there since 2007.
