MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - With just over two minutes left on the clock,
Marley Ells got the ball on the East sideline. She pushed the ball up to teammate
Riley Omonaka who sent a beautiful cross into the box and
Jocelyn Jacobs finished the play with her first goal of the 2024 season to secure a 1-0 victory over Whitman at the Linfield Soccer Complex as the sun began to set Saturday afternoon.
The first half featured a back-and-forth affair with Linfield spending most of the half on the attack.
Julia Alvarez led the 'Cats in the opening half with two shots while
Alexa Fritz recorded two first-half saves. As a team, Linfield managed four corner kicks to Whitman's three.
The defensive battle continued into the second half with both teams applying pressure but neither one able to find the back of the net until
Jocelyn Jacobs netted the deciding goal in the 87
th minute.
Julia Alvarez finished the match with three shots to lead the Wildcats as
Jordan Stoner and
Jocelyn Jacobs contributed two of their own.
Mia Curtaz,
Sidra Griffin,
Amalia Tufts,
Kami Echiverri and
Reese Jones rounded out the attack with one shot each.
Alexa Fritz played all 90 minutes of Saturday's match and is up to 24 saves on the season after finishing with four and shutting out the Blues.
Whitman's attack was directed by Leah Barnes who took four shots and put two on goal. Ella Johnson contributed with three shots while Katherine Sand had two. Goalkeeping duties were split between Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky who tallied one save and Seanee Still who also had one save and relinquished the sole goal of the match.
