Julia Alvarez. Alvarez scored Linfield's lone goal early in the first half and never looked back, totaling five shots in her collegiate debut.
For the Hawks, Myah Giles and Zoey Forst led the charge on offense with three shots each while Samantha Groesbeck played all 90 minutes at goalkeeper and saved three shots from hitting the back of the net.
Due to excessive heat and temperatures above 90 degrees, Friday's match featured four hydration breaks that allowed the athletes time to return to their benches and hydrate themselves. The heat proved to be a factor as both teams sent in six substitutions each.
Looking Ahead
Linfield continues its home stand to start the season when it plays Evergreen State on Monday followed by Caltech on Sept. 6 and Cal Lutheran on Sept. 12 before NWC play begins.
