FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Linfield opened its season Friday night with a doubleheader against Mary Hardin-Baylor and Multnomah to begin the Oregon Trail Classic.
The Wildcats were swept in the Mary Hardin-Baylor match but were able to find their footing and pull out a 3-1 victory over Multnomah.
MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR, 3, LINFIELD 0
The Crusaders established themselves early, getting out to a quick 17-6 lead in the first set and they never looked back, ultimately winning 25-15, 25-15 and 25-22.
Nora Myre led the Wildcats with 10 kills to go along with three aces.
Camryn Hirst anchored the defense for Linfield, using her length to block three kill attempts.
For Mary Hardin-Baylor, Dravyn Hurd and Kendall Harrington made their presence known with six kills each while Hurd also added six blocks.
LINFIELD 3, MULTNOMAH 1
Friday's match marked only the second time in program history the Wildcats and Lions have faced off. With the victory, Linfield moves to 2-0 all-time against Multnomah.
Offensively for Linfield,
Nora Myre impressed with 21 kills while
Journey DePonte added 10 more.
Multnomah was led by Jade Iloa and Aleya Baptiste who notched 11 and 10 kills respectively.

The Oregon Trail Classic moves to McMinnville on Saturday where Linfield takes on Bushnell at 5:30 p.m. before shifting focus to Pacific Union at 8:30 p.m.
