Linfield softball players
Tayah Kelley and
Claire Seats were named Northwest Conference Softball Player and Pitcher Student-Athletes of the Week in a release from the conference announced on Wednesday. The duo helped the Wildcats accomplish history after being only the second program across all levels to finish the regular season with a perfect record.
Â
Kelley totaled nine and two-thirds innings over three games against Willamette as the Wildcats swept the Bearcats over the four-game series. In her first outing, Kelley totaled eight strikeouts in a complete game shutout and similarly in her second start, she again racked up eight punchouts and didn't give up a run. She then closed the door on the Bearcats with a save after pitching the final two-thirds of an inning in the series finale. The Myrtle Creek, Ore., native leads the NWC in ERA (0.99), wins (24), complete games (17), innings pitched (128), saves (4) and strikeouts (201).
Â
Seats paced the Linfield offense by hitting .385 or better in all four games, totaling seven hits and seven RBIs. She added two home runs, seven runs scored and two doubles. The Seattle Wash., native ranks among the conference leaders in batting average (.426), hits (52) and RBIs (54). She sits on top of the NWC in total home runs with 12.
Â
Linfield won the NWC regular season title and returns to the field on Friday for the first round of the conference tournament against Willamette. First pitch against the Bearcats is scheduled for 4 p.m.
