Linfield University has been confirmed by the NCAA as one of eight sites across the country to host this week's Division III Super Regionals.
Â
The best-of-three tournament is set for Thursday and Friday, May 23-24, at Linfield's Del Smith Stadium. The schedule calls for the Wildcats and the Dutch to play a single game Thursday at 4 p.m. followed by a second game on Friday at 1:30. A deciding third game, if necessary, will follow at 4 p.m.
The winner of the Super Regional advances to the eight-team Division III Finals, May 30-June 5, in Marshall Texas.
Â
Ranked No. 1 in the most recent NFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, Linfield (46-1) will host 25th-ranked Central College (32-11) of Pella, Iowa.
Â
Linfield reached the Super Regional round for a second straight season after defeating Redlands three games to one at last week's McMinnville Regional.
Â
Central qualified for the Super Regionals by winning the Pella Regional. The Dutch won three of four games to advance, including a 9-3 victory over Bethel (Minn.) in the championship contest.
Â
Linfield and Central have met five times previously in softball (three in the postseason) with the Wildcats winning all five. The most recent meeting came March 4, 2018 at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Tucson, Ariz.
Â
A complete Super Regional preview, including broadcast and ticket information, will be published Monday.
