Wildcats knock out Boxers to close regular season

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Nick Holm and Hunter Klingelhoffer combined for two home runs and four RBIs in Linfield's 5-4 Northwest Conference victory over Pacific on Wednesday evening at Roy Helser Field. With the win, the 'Cats are in the driver's seat for a conference tournament berth after winning the series over Pacific.

Holm extended his NWC game-hitting streak to 15 with the home run. Camden Oram went four and two-thirds innings as the Linfield starter, giving up four earned runs while striking out six Pacific batters. Brian Mannion (3-2) earned the win after throwing an inning and a third in relief work. Elijah Maris led the Wildcats (19-20, 12-12 NWC) in hits and runs with two each.

CJ Colyer mashed his 17th home run on the season and led the Boxers with two RBIs on the day. Matt Gibbs tallied two hits for Pacific (22-14, 10-11 NWC). Colyer (3-1) went four and two-thirds innings as the starter and was charged with the loss. Pacific and Linfield finished even in hits with seven.

The Boxers and Wildcats matched one another with four hits and three runs after the opening three frames. Pacific grabbed the lead momentarily in the fifth inning until a Holm two-run blast later in the frame pulled the 'Cats ahead 5-4.

Across the sixth through ninth innings, Jacob Swenson and Gavin Ludlow held the Boxers batters to only one hit. Ludlow earned the four-out save after retiring the Pacific lineup in order in the final frame.
