For the third straight week, three Linfield student-athletes were selected as Northwest Conference Student-Athletes of the Week in a release from the conference announced on Monday. Linfield softball swept the weekly honors for the fourth time this season with
Tayah Kelley being named Pitcher of the Week and
Brynn Nelson joining her as Player of the Week.
Josie Daywitt's efforts on the course saw her named Women's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week.
Kelley earned three wins in 14 innings pitched as Linfield swept the four-game series against Pacific this last weekend. In two starts, Kelley hurled two complete games including a complete game shutout, struck out 25 batters and gave up only one earned run. Over three appearances, Kelley ended the weekend with a 0.50 ERA. The Myrtle Creek, Ore., native leads the Northwest Conference in ERA (0.92), wins (18), complete games (13), innings pitched (91.1) and strikeouts (135).
Nelson paced the offense with a .583 batting average, seven hits with at least one hit coming in every game and drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning in the series finale. She also poured in two runs, two doubles, six RBIs and finished the weekend with a 1.000 slugging percentage. The Bonney Lake, Wash., native leads the Northwest Conference in batting average (.550), hits (44) and OPS (1.465). Nelson also ranks among the leaders in home runs (6), RBIs (30) and doubles (7).
Daywitt led the Wildcats with low scores of 85 and 82 over two duals against Willamette over the weekend. Her 18-hole tally of 82 on Sunday lifted Linfield over Willamette in a dual meet at Langdom Farms Golf Club. Daywitt's score helped the Wildcats to a 10-stroke team victory.
Linfield softball (28-0) continues its best start in program history and is still one of two teams across the country that holds a perfect record. The Wildcats are on the road for a four-game series at Lewis & Clark starting on Saturday and going through Sunday. The Wildcats women's golf team is at Langdon Farms Golf Club and Saturday and Sunday for the Northwest Conference Championships.
