Linfield's season comes to a close at L&C

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Linfield women's tennis team ended their season Saturday with a 6-3 loss at Lewis & Clark.
 
The Wildcats finished the year with a 4-9 record and 3-6 mark in Northwest Conference play, currently sixth in the league standings. The top four teams reach the NWC Championship tournament.
 
DOUBLES
The Pioneers (6-8, 3-3) got off to a strong start taking a 2-1 lead in doubles action.
 
At No. 1 doubles Lewis & Clark's top duo of Susanna Anand and Seraphina Vossen edged out Linfield's Sarah Forester and Emma Tuttle 8-6.
 
Linfield evened the score with a win at No. 2 doubles for freshman pairing Kaitlynn Canubida and Samantha Baltz, playing together for the first time this season. The young Wildcat pair beat Emma Loucks and Kacie Lau 8-3.
 
No. 3 doubles went to the Pioneers as Charlotte Makoni and Hayley Kreps beat Lisa Ponti and Emily Redwood 8-3 to hold the advantage going into singles.
 
SINGLES
Lewis & Clark quickly clinched victory on the day with three wins in the top half of the singles lineup.
 
In the day's top flight, Anand beat Forester 6-1, 6-1 while Vossen beat Tuttle 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.
 
The third singles contest proved competitive, as Canubida battled through three sets with a rested Arielle Bloom. Bloom ultimately won 3-6, 6-4, 3-6 to clinch the match for the Pioneers.
 
Baltz took the first singles win of the day for Linfield at the No. 4 flight, easily handling Loucks 6-2, 6-2 for her third straight singles win. Baltz finished her freshman season with a team best 8-5 record in singles play.
 
At No. 5 Makoni beat Ponti 6-3, 6-2, while at No. 6 singles freshman Emily Redwood won her first match of the season in her first singles appearance, outlasting Kreps 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7), to set the final match score at 6-3.
