Wildcats get back to winning ways over Puget Sound

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield women's tennis returned to McMinnville and the win column Easter Sunday with a 7-2 win over the Puget Sound Loggers.
 
The win snapped a six-match losing skid for the Wildcats (3-8, 2-3).
 
Sunday was Linfield's first home match since March 21 and first Northwest Conference match since March 10 after spending last week in southern California over spring break.
 
The 'Cats have now taken 13 straight against the Loggers (0-10, 0-5) dating back to the 2013 season.
 
DOUBLES
Linfield got off to a strong start sweeping its way through doubles action.
 
At the top of the ladder, Linfield's No. 1 team of Sarah Forester and Emma Tuttle dominated Puget Sound's Krishna Agrawal and Kaylee Yamada 8-0.
 
Forester and Tuttle's win was their third of the season. It was followed by Samantha Baltz and Lisa Ponti picking up their fourth win of the year at No. 3 doubles with an 8-3 win over Zoe Richter and Ella Parker.
 
The Wildcats completed the doubles sweep when Alexis Garner and Kaitlynn Canubida improved to a team-best 6-5 as a duo with an 8-5 win over Marissa Perez and Hyla Chatham at No. 2 doubles.
 
SINGLES
Forester continued her impressive day by quickly bringing Linfield within one team point of clinching with a 6-0, 6-1 drubbing of Yamada at No. 1 singles in just 46 minutes.
 
It was Forester's second win of the season in the top spot in lineup.
 
The Wildcats managed to clinch the day when Baltz swiftly followed Forester with a win at No. 5 singles, beating also Richter 6-0, 6-1 in just 47 minutes, setting the match score at 5-0, Linfield.
 
It was the sixth singles win of the season for Baltz, good enough to lead the team in just her freshman season.
 
Garner extended the Linfield lead to 6-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Laura Schneidman at No. 5 singles before Tuttle picked up the Wildcats' final win of the day in the No. 2 flight 6-0, 6-3.
 
It was Tuttle's fifth win of the year, all in the No. 2 spot in Linfield's lineup.
 
Puget Sound managed to get on the board in the final two flights to conclude, with Argawal beating Canubida 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3 singles and Parker beating Ponti 7-6, 7-5 at No. 6 singles to set the final score at 7-2.
 
NEXT
The Wildcats will play their final home match of the year this Saturday, April 6 at 11:00 against the Pacific Boxers (5-6, 2-1).
 
Saturday's match will also serve as Senior Day. Forester and Garner will be honored prior to the match.
 
Linfield then wraps up the regular season April 13 at Lewis & Clark.
