Five home runs propel Wildcats over Pioneers

PORTLAND, Ore. – Elijah Maris and Hunter Klingelhoffer blasted two home runs each and combined for 10 RBIs in Linfield's 13-2 series finale victory against Lewis & Clark on Sunday afternoon at Jerry Gatto Field. Jacob Swenson pitched a career-high seven innings to earn his sixth start.

All but one of the starting lineup for Linfield came across to score. Tyler Marr also hit a solo home run while Trent Wainfeld added an extra-base hit. Swenson (1-1) struck out seven batters while only giving up one earned run. The 'Cats feasted on Lewis & Clark's pitching totaling 10 hits. Klingelhoffer led all hitters with three hits.

Four Pioneers (10-9-1, 2-4 NWC) hitters tied for the team lead with one hit. Bret Potter and Brandon Gonzaga each tallied an RBI. Kyle Wilsie was tagged for the loss after surrendering five runs in three innings pitched.

The Wildcats and Pioneers each plated single runs in the second and fourth innings. Maris' bases-clearing grand slam in Linfield's half of the fifth inning put the 'Cats ahead by four.

Linfield's offense continued to roll in the sixth and ninth innings. Klingelhoffer was responsible for all three Wildcats' runs in the sixth frame after hitting a three-run home run. The 'Cats poured in five more runs in the final inning with Klingelhoffer and Maris each hitting their second home runs. The Pioneers combined for only one hit across the final three innings.
