Linfield men fall on the road at Corban 34-13

SALEM, Ore. – After barely missing out on a major decision victory last weekend at Southwestern Oregon, Darrius Walker put it all together Friday night at Corban in a 12-3 major over the Warriors' Aidan Walter in the 184-pound weight class. (A major decision is a win by eight points or more, and Walker won by only seven at SWOCC in the most recent dual.)

Two other Wildcats, Jakob Jarvis at 157 pounds and Divenson Willis at 197, came from behind to notch dramatic wins Friday night inside C.E. Jeffers Sports Center, keeping the final score competitive in a 34-13 dual meet loss at NAIA opponent Corban.

Jarvis was behind 7-1 early, before storming back to even the match in the third round – and then eventually pinning Corban's Gus Menne with 40 seconds left on the clock. Willis, who dropped a 7-6 heartbreaker last weekend at SWOCC, came from behind this time to notch an 8-6 win over Corban's Luke Bischoff.

"Divenson is really starting to put it together," Wildcats coach Frank Johnson said. "Jarvis wrestled a good match, Darrius had his best match of the year and Ethan Ensrud really had a strong night."

True-freshman Ensrud, facing 18th-ranked Tyson Stover, nearly pulled off a comeback of his own before falling 10-7. He was pushing hard for a tying takedown in the third round, while Stover backpedaled and attempted to run out the clock.

"We didn't win, but I'm really proud of our effort tonight," Johnson said. "It wasn't hard to get motivated to wrestle Corban, because that's a good team over there There were a lot of exciting matches, the crowd was into it and we showed up. We have a long way to go, but we wrestled a quality opponent and we wrestled them tough."
