Linfield's 'Night at the Museum' a rousing success

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Surrounded by a NASA space capsule, stealth fighter jets and a Navy helicopter, the Linfield University wrestling squads split a dual match with Umpqua Community College inside the Evergreen Space Museum, part of a special event dubbed "Night at the Museum."

Fans in attendance were treated to a series of intense matches, including witnessing an upset of the No. 1 ranked 143-pound wrestler at the junior-college level.

On the strength of victories by Wildcats Jakob Jarvis, Ethan Ensrud, Darrius Walker and Divenson Willis, Linfield's men topped Umpqua 29-25.

The women's match, though not as close, featured exciting individual victories by Riley Omonaka and Alice Rickett. By night's end, UCC, the junior college's No. 2-ranked team, had defeated Linfield on the scoreboard, 24-10.

WOMEN
Rickett prevailed in a back-and-forth battle at 143 pounds, ultimately pinning UCC's Tarleen Saroya, the No. 1-ranked junior college wrestler at 143 pounds.

Omonaka scored a decisive pinfall at 116 pounds over Umpqua's Vaea LaMoureaux in 1:21. Omonaka returned later to wrestle an exhibition bout, but took a loss when she was unable to continue due to an injury.

MEN
Willis clinched the team result in the Wildcats' favor by scoring a 17-2 major decision over UCC's Hunter Hammer at 197 pounds.

Jarvis secured a pinfall of Benjamin Cooper at 3:42 of the 157-pound pairing. And freshman Ethan Ensrud took down Trey Munn by pin at 4:07 of the 174-pound class.

Wrestling at 184 pounds, Darrius Walker pinned Anthony Thomas at the 3:16 mark.  Julian Ortiz added a forfeit win for the Wildcats at the heavyweight class.
