SPOKANE, Wash. – Two Linfield women's wrestlers and one from the men's team came home with hardware from a deep field at the Spokane Open on Sunday.
Emily Sullenger at 138 pounds placed fifth and
Klaira Flatt at 145 pounds finished sixth in the women's brackets, while 125-pounder
Jacob Moore claimed a fifth-place finish on the men's side.
Moore, who entered the tournament with a 2-6 record, seemed to settle in at the 125-pound weight class and won four matches in Spokane to even his season record at 6-6. He had been wrestling 133 and 141 earlier in the season.
Sullenger fell in the quarterfinals to Washington State's Lia Hornby, then worked her way back through the consolation side of the bracket to meet Hornby again in the fifth-place medal match. The second time around, Sullenger made short work of Hornby, pinning her in 1:21.
Freshman
Carlos Kisokwa had a single win coming into the weekend, but put together back-to-back wins to reach the quarterfinals at 149.
Hayden Briggs, also a freshman, won his first match other than a forfeit in a dual meet. And heavyweights
Jacob Barnes and
Julian Ortiz notched wins for the first time this season.
Ethan Ensrud lost a major decision to North Idaho's Jackson Lougen two weeks ago at the Mike Clock Open, but reversed that outcome in Spokane. This time, he pinned Lougen in 3:53 in the opening match, on the way to a 3-2 day.

Both the Linfield men and women face NAIA power Southern Oregon on Saturday, December 7, at Ted Wilson Gymnasium. The matches start at 5 p.m.
