Linfield and Puget Sound battle to 1-1 draw

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Linfield Wildcats and Puget Sound Loggers fought to a 1-1 draw in a tightly contested match on Sunday afternoon at Linfield Soccer Complex. Both teams entered with matching overall records,

Linfield opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Lena Caballero Uhtoff found the net off an assist from Ava Vargas-Quiroz, marking her first goal of the season. Linfield managed three shots on goal throughout the match, with Caballero Uhtoff, Jordan Stoner, and Riley Omonaka all testing Puget Sound goalkeeper Gianna Maldonado, who finished with two saves.

Puget Sound ramped up the pressure in the second half, launching 10 of their 14 total shots after the break. Linfield goalkeeper Alexa Fritz stood tall, making eight saves, several of which came in the closing minutes. However, Puget Sound equalized in the 83rd minute when Amelia Guasco capitalized on an assist from Sydney Boyd.

The Wildcats matched Puget Sound with three corner kicks each, but the physical nature of the game was evident as Linfield committed seven fouls compared to the Loggers' four. Linfield's Rae Gerking and Puget Sound's Kya Scott each received yellow cards in a chippy second half.

Linfield's defense, anchored by Fritz's standout performance in goal, played a key role in securing the draw.
