Wildcats end NWC play at home against Lutes, Bearcats

THE RECORDS
Linfield enters the final week of the Northwest Conference slate at 10-21 overall and 6-13 in NWC play. Pacific Lutheran is just outside the playoff picture in fifth place at 15-16 overall with a 9-10 NWC mark. Willamette sits in second place at 19-9 overall with a 14-7 NWC record.

LINFIELD AT A GLANCE
The Wildcats snapped an eight-game losing streak with a non-conference win at Bushnell last week. They dropped all three games at Pacific over the weekend. Freshman Jesse Lopez made his first collegiate start at third base in Forest Grove. He appeared in two games, going 4 for 5 with a run and an RBI. Branden Pasion leads the team in batting average (.353), on-base percentage (.455), hits (42) and runs (24). Casey Struckmeier owns a 3.93 ERA in 34.1 innings pitched.
 
PACIFIC LUTHERAN AT A GLANCE
The Lutes have won three straight NWC series after taking two of three games from Whitworth at home last week. Ashton Barton leads the team with 42 hits, 17 doubles and 28 RBI. The Lutes' all-time home run king, Cole Trotignon has driven in 24 runs and has six homers on the year. Spencer Howell is 6-2 on the mound with 55 strikeouts and a 3.05 ERA. Trotignon has also made nine starts as a pitcher.

WILLAMETTE AT A GLANCE
The Bearcats were on an eight-game win streak before dropping Games 2 and 3 against Lewis & Clark last week. Jonny Suchor is batting .386 with 32 hits. Ethan Fischel and Luke Werkmeister-Martin have driven in 23 runs apiece. Jeff Hoffman leads the team with seven home runs and six doubles. Layton Wagner is 4-2 with 59 strikeouts in nine starts. Brady Joyner has eight saves and a 3.48 ERA to his name in 12 relief appearances.

HISTORY
Linfield owns an all-time record of 115-60 against PLU, which includes 61 wins at home. The Lutes have won seven of the last 11 matchups. The two teams are 2-2 against each other in 2023. The Lutes won two of three games in a non-conference series on Feb. 3-4. The 'Cats won Game 1 of this makeup series, 7-3, on March 15 in McMinnville.

Linfield is 124-75-1 in the all-time series with Willamette, including 75-34-1 at home. The Wildcats took four of the last six meetings, but the Bearcats won 10-5 in a non-conference game on March 22 in Salem.
