IRVINE, Calif. – The Linfield men's tennis team fell 4-1 Thursday night to the Westcliff Warriors, with the match shortened and called before it's conclusion due to inclement weather.
Â
It was the third of four straight matches in consecutive days for the Wildcats on their California road trip.
Â
Linfield was expected to continue their road swing today against the Caltech Beavers, but that match has also been postponed due to heavy rain and wind in the Los Angeles area.
Â
SINGLES
Only singles matches were played between the Wildcats (1-4) and the Warriors (4-2, 2-0) on Thursday.
Â
Linfield's lone point came in the No. 4 flight when freshman
Brooks Lerfald outlasted Westcliff's Felix Hamp in a 10-point pro set in the third frame, winning 6-2, 2-6, 10-8.
Â
In the No. 2 flight,
Rogue Stone fell to Kai Van der Assen 6-2, 6-4, while
Seth Lee forced a third set against Luciano Pardo in the No. 3 flight but fell 6-1, 4-6, 10-4.
Â
Westcliff made quick work of Linfield in the fifth and sixth flights, with Dominik Petrisic beating
Alexander Rosenquist 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 and Ali Erkan Bebek winning 6-2, 6-0 against
Cody Pickar.
Â
The top-flight featured
Wilhelm Saiga against Emile Farve.
Â
The three-set battle between the top two players was eventually left unfinished at 6-2, 6-1, 2-2 due to weather and Westcliff having the match in hand at that point, setting the final score at 4-1.
Â
NEXT
The Wildcats Friday match with Caltech (2-0) has been postponed due to weather but will likely be made up in the next two days.
Â
Once Linfield wraps up its California trip the Wildcats will return to the Pacific Northwest to start Northwest Conference play at Willamette (0-4) on March 4 before hosting George Fox (2-3) the following day.
