'Cats still in it heading into final week of regular season

GAME PREVIEWS

COVERAGE
The Linfield Sports Network will provide live audio coverage on the road in eastern Washington for the Wildcats' final games of the regular season. Joe Stuart will be on the call for both doubleheaders. Live video and stats feeds will be available through the Whitworth and Whitman coverage portals.

THE RECORDS
Linfield is tied for the No. 4 spot in the Northwest Conference standings with Lewis & Clark, entering the week at 10-13 overall and 7-7 in NWC play. Whitworth sits in third place at 14-9 overall with a 9-5 NWC record. Whitman (19-4, 12-2 NWC) is two games up on Puget Sound to sit comfortably in first place entering the final week of the regular season.

The Wildcats control their own destiny. Due to tiebreaker scenarios, a 2-0 week would secure a playoff berth.

LINFIELD AT A GLANCE
Linfield got back in the win column following back-to-back losses to the Tacoma schools. The Wildcats finished last week with a 75-69 win over Lewis & Clark on Senior Night. The team celebrated six seniors: Carson Bonine, Reece Gibb, Mikey Hinkle, Jacob Hjort, Alex Jaczko and Jack Stallard.

Gibb turned in his second double-double of the season against Puget Sound with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Trey Bryant had a monster double-double against the Pioneers with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Bryant is tied for fifth in the NWC with 14.8 points per game. His 6.7 rebounds, five assists and 2.3 steals per game all rank second. Bonine is second on the team with 9.5 points per game.

WHITWORTH AT A GLANCE
The Pirates were riding a three-game win streak until dropping back-to-back games to Whitman and George Fox last week. They're third in the NWC in defense, allowing 71.6 points per game. Michael Smith is in the conference's top 10 with 13.4 points per game while JT McDermott isn't far behind with 13 points per game. McDermott and Jake Holtz lead the team with 6.3 rebounds per game. Holtz is shooting 59.8 percent from the field to rank second among qualified NWC players.

WHITMAN AT A GLANCE
The Blues have won five straight games after picking up two blowout wins last week over Whitworth and George Fox. They lead the NWC with a 48.9 field goal percentage while also leading the way in defense, allowing just 66.4 points per game. Xzavier Lino is seventh in the league with 13.9 points per game while Jai Deshpande and Walter Lum are both scoring more than 12 points per game. Lino's 42.4 three-point percentage leads the NWC.

HISTORY
Linfield has won 35 of its 98 games against Whitworth. Twelve of those wins came on the road, but the Wildcats are looking for their first win over the Pirates in Spokane since 2001. The 'Cats won the last two meetings and three of the last four. They took the first meeting of the season by a score of 86-79 on Jan. 21 in McMinnville.

Linfield is 56-51 in the all-time series with Whitman, averaging 80.2 points per game. The Blues won 19 straight games between the 2010-11 and 2019-20 seasons. The 'Cats beat the Blues at home last season, running away with a 102-83 win at home. Since then, the Blues have won back-to-back meetings, including the first matchup of 2022-23, a 71-47 rout of the 'Cats at Ted Wilson Gymnasium.
