Barnes posts 5-0 day at Spokane Open to lead Wildcats

SPOKANE, Wash. – Linfield heavyweight Jacob Barnes was a perfect 5-0 on Sunday – including an 18-second pin in the semifinals – to lead Linfield to a ninth-place finish among 21 men's teams at the Spokane Open. Wrestling at the new all-purpose sports facility known as The Podium, the sophomore from McMinnville improved his season record to 10-1.

On the women's side, freshman Katelyn Cederburg notched her first collegiate win to help lead Linfield to a seventh-place finish out of 11 teams. Fellow freshman Kelsie Rush came up with the second win of her college career and her second pin.

"Barnes wrestled in good position all day, and Ethan [Ensrud] and Darrius [Walker] were tenacious," said assistant coach Alyssa Lampe. "None of those guys are ever out of a match. On the women's side, we wrestled through some injuries and stayed composed."

A freshman from Canby, Ensrud won back-to-back matches on the consolation side of the bracket to qualify for the blood round – one win from placing in the tourney. A sophomore from Hillsboro, Walker won his first two matches to make it to the quarterfinals before dropping two straight.
