SPOKANE, Wash. – Linfield couldn't match Whitworth's offensive output on Saturday afternoon in Spokane Wash. The Pirates scored three times in the first 30 minutes and surged to a 4-1 victory over the Wildcats.
The Wildcats (4-10-3, 3-7-2) finished with 11 shots, five on goal, one corner kick and six fouls.
Ross Vargo's score was the first of his career and the Wildcats' only goal.
Colby Reese finished with three saves on 13 shots faced.
Angel Hernandez played the full 90 for Linfield while
Evan Stafford was the next closest with 80 minutes.
The Pirates were rolling early as Caden Martin scored off a Beckett Arthur assist in the 12th minute. Three minutes later, Eric Shaporda headed in Whitworth's second score. The onslaught continued as Shaporda found Aruther, growing the lead to three.
Vargo got Linfield on the board after sneaking a shot past the defense in the 38th minute.
Linfield outshot Whitworth 8-7 in the second half but Shaporda scored his second goal of the match in the 85th minute to cap off a 4-1 Pirates victory.
Whitworth (10-4-3, 8-2-3) finished with 13 shots, seven on goal, four corner kicks and nine fouls.
