Three Wildcats claim titles at Boxer Open

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Micah Worthington, Price Pothier and Jacob Barnes brought home championships Sunday from the Boxer Open, hosted by Pacific University. They were among eight Wildcats who placed on the day.

After losing his first match of the season at the Mat 'Cat Invitational a week ago, Barnes ripped through the Boxer Open bracket to claim his second tournament title. (He also won the Spokane Open in November.) The heavyweight from McMinnville pinned three opponents in the opening minute on Sunday, and won a fourth match by medical forfeit. Barnes improved his record to 16-1 on the year.

Pothier (174 pounds) and Worthington (149) also made short work of their opponents in championship matches, Worthington with a first-round pin of Corban's Jordan Piercy and Pothier with a 16-1 technical fall over Pacific's Andrew Zinn.

Jacob Moore finished as a runner-up at 125 pounds, beating two Pacific opponents before falling to San Francisco State's Brayden Conception in the final.

Wildcat junior Jakob Jarvis also turned in his best performance of the season at the 141-pound flight, winning three of his four matches and blanking Corban's Brody Piercy 6-0 in the third-place final. At the Mat 'Cat Invitational last weekend, Piercy had edged Jarvis 6-5 in the medal round.

Adjusting to a new weight class, freshman Kellen Hanson turned in his second consecutive strong performance at 133. After placing fifth at the Mat 'Cat Invitational, Hanson followed it up with a third-place finish Sunday at the Boxer Open.

OF NOTE
Lucien Lefebvre, who played football and didn't join Linfield wrestling until mid-season, picked up his first collegiate win, pinning University of Washington's Anton Baur in 1:44 of the 184-pound classification.
