PUGET SOUND AT A GLANCE
Puget Sound already has two wins over nationally-ranked opponents under its belt, beating No. 22 Emory (1-0) on Sept. 5 and No. 24 Pomona-Pitzer (2-0) on Sept. 11. The Loggers are averaging 2.25 goals per game and have as many assists as they do goals. Ava Cholakian is off to a hot start with four goals on 23 shots, 13 on goal. Tess Carden and Layla Santos have three assists apiece. Chaylea Tome is 3-1-0 in goal with three shutouts, 19 saves and a 0.50 goals against average. The Loggers allowed just two goals in their four matches.
PACIFIC LUTHERAN AT A GLANCE
Defending champion Pacific Lutheran also beat No. 22 Emory on Sept. 3. The Lutes have yet to allow a goal this season, outscoring their opponents 10-0. Julia Causbie owns a team-leading three goals on 11 shots, seven on goal. Hannah Cecil, the reigning NWC Freshman of the Year, and Kayden Hulquist are right behind Causbie with two goals apiece. Both players also have an assist on the season. The Lutes also return the 2021 NWC Defensive Player of the Year in Ella Merte, who leads the team with 339 minutes played. Shaylin Cesar has started in all four matches at goalkeeper. She has three shutouts and 12 saves for a 1.000 save percentage.
HISTORY
Linfield owns a 5-42-5 overall record against Puget Sound, which includes a 2-23-2 record in Tacoma. The last win for the 'Cats came in a 2-1 victory in Tacoma in 2017. The Loggers won both meetings in 2021, winning 2-1 in McMinnville on Oct. 3 and 1-0 in Tacoma on Oct. 31.
Linfield and PLU have met 53 times. The Lutes lead the all-time series with a 27-23-3 record. The 'Cats have also struggled in Parkland, going 7-16-1. The 'Cats took the last meeting of the 2019 season by a score of 2-1, but the Lutes sept the season series in 2021, winning 4-1 in McMinnville and 4-0 in Parkland.
