Following one of the most successful seasons in program history, Linfield lacrosse was among the teams selected as Academic Honor Squads for the 2021-22 academic year, announced Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).
Â
The IWLCA named 398 programs as Academic Honor Squads, teams that posted a 3.2 GPA or higher during the academic year. The list includes institutions from NCAA Division I, II and III as well as NAIA. Linfield is one of 155 Division III schools on the list.
Â
The Wildcats are also represented on the 2022 IWLCA Division III Academic Honor Roll by two recent graduates,
Josie Duey (psychology) and
Bethany Shade (exercise science). The duo is among a group of 1,104 student-athletes among 194 different institutions. To earn a place on the Academic Honor Roll, a player must be a junior, senior or graduate student and boast a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better.
Â
Shade earned First Team All-NWC honors for the second straight season while also being named the NWC Defensive Player of the Year. She was the conference's Player of the Year as a junior in 2021. Duey finished her Linfield career as a Second Team All-NWC selection.
Â
The 'Cats went 12-5 overall during their 2022 campaign and finished third in the NWC standings with an 8-4 conference mark. The 12 wins are the most in school history since the 'Cats became a full-time NCAA program in 2007.
